Susan Nilsen, LCSW

Deborah PhotoSusan Nilsen, MSW, LCSW, graduated with a Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Connecticut and New York.  Having worked in the mental health field for over 25 years and as a Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist for 20 years, Susan has experience working in both eating disorder and general psychiatric in-patient and out-patient settings, and has worked with child and adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.  At Thrive, Susan provides individual therapy for mostly older adolescents and adults, ages 16 and up, as well as couples and family therapy, and has a strong background working with people struggling with eating disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders.  Appealing to individual strengths, her theoretical approach is primarily psychodynamic, utilizing insight-oriented therapy, along with cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients develop more adaptive coping skills.
